Tower Technician - Birmingham, AL
Responsibilities include climbing all towers/structures, water tanks and rooftops,
installing antennas, mounts and coax and supports, replacing lines and antennas,
weatherproof cables and connectors. The job also includes, but is not limited to,
terminating various types of cable, working with coupler sites, performing tower
modifications and guy wire change outs along with maintenance work.
Must have an ability to work individually and as part of a team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the physical ability and the willingness to climb towers in excess of 500 feet
- Performance of general repair of tower lighting to include, but not limited to: strobes, beacons and obstruction lighting maintenance/repair; lighting controllers and monitors, maintenance/repair; work with high voltage systems (dc and ac)
- Pick-up and delivery of supplies, tools, equipment, components, etc. in company vehicle
- Installation of new lighting systems and removal of old lighting systems
- Development and maintenance of a positive company image:
- Providing superior customer service ensuring all essential job functions are performed in a timely, efficient, accurate, and safe manner
- Adhering to all driving requirements as determined by State and Federal laws
- Adhering to all Company and industry standards/regulations (i.e., OSHA)
- Maintaining company vehicle in a clean and presentable condition
- Effective utilization of available resources, technology, and tools to complete work
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as additional legal
regulatory requirements
- The completion of all required training within company provided time limits. Training includes, but is not limited to: OSHA 10 Hour, Asbestos, New Hire Learning Plan, CPR/First Aid, Tower Climbing and Rescue Certification
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record to operate a company vehicle
- Ability to climb heights up to 500 feet
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions
- Safe driving record required
- Ability to work independently under limited supervision
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized with a strong attention to detail
- Self-starter, team player, results oriented
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1+ year(s) general construction, electrical, technical, or mechanical experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
ENVIRONMENT:
100% of work is performed externally, on-site, outdoors, with exposure to the elements of nature working under normal construction conditions.
90% travel is required in support of this position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and finger to feel and handle; reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 75 pounds.
